What a day, what a weekend, we set off from Ballinasloe in the early hours of sat morning with a belly full of porridge , we had signed in in SKODA Monaghans, Galway the evening before and got some tasty pasta , our bikes were ready, we had a good gang going from our club Ballinasloe cc so we all met up before, it looked like it was a good idea to bring the sunscreen, there was a great buzz all around clifden from the outskirts all we could see was cars with cyclists getting there bikes ready and all set for the day.
unnamedThere was beautiful bikes all around and lots of colour from club kits from all around Ireland, we chatted lots from up north who made the big journey down every year to the most beautiful cycle in Ireland, All around the station house there was music buzzing, everyone was in great form and chatty, we were chatting to fellow cyclist from neighbour clubs An Rother club and Portumna and there was a big numbers from  our neighbour club South Roscommon CC who have there own charity spin 11th June .
I was cycling with a big gang from the club and it was a few of there 1st big sportive so there was great excitement all morning, my mate gavin was really looking forward to the Unknow
We started off as we left Clifden there was huge numbers snaking out the rd towards the beautiful white sands of Ballyconnelly, Cycling by the white sands and blue blue water I felt like going for a swim , but we were here to cycle so off we went , passing Roundstone it really is a beautiful village overlooking the water and harbour , there were family kids and lots of people waving us on from the gates of there houses to cars on the road, it was a great vibe.
When we got to the food stop, had lovely sandwiches and VERY VERY TASTY CAKES  and a cuppa coffee , off we went through beautiful valleys, sea veiw, mountains bogs sheep and conamara pony there was lovely purple rhododendrons flowering, white bog cotton , it was a mix of a nature program a travel program and a bit of Eurosport cycling , we all felt the little hill coming into letter frack but knew we were nearly home , we flew back to clifden as we crossed the line, awaiting us was a lovely medal to accompany the lovely jersery we got that looks like a Connaught top for the day that was in it ,

We went for a burger and well deserved beer and there was a great party vibe all around the station house with great music , we chilled out for a while, we hitted back to our  house for the night, showered and hit back into Clifden for dinner and refreshments and watched Connachts historic win. We had a great night in Clifden lots of fun and can’t wait for next year and looking forward to the next in the Skoda Celtic Series, Granfondo Hibernia, Ennis 31st July.
